The WYSO Percussion Ensemble will present the 18th Annual Percussion EXTRAVAGANZA! on Saturday, April 6 at 1:30 pm at Mills Concert Hall, 455 N. Park Street, Madison.
With a theme of “Spirits Rising,” the 2019 Percussion EXTRAVAGANZA! will feature nearly 150 performers, including instrumentalists, vocalists, and dancers. Guests will hear music from several world cultures, plus the world premiere of Common Mind by composer and WYSO alumnus Jon D. Nelson.
Collaborators include the UW Samba Band, the UW PanGlobal Ensemble, Kalaanjali School of Dance, Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance, saxophonist Drew Whiting, Madison Youth Choirs, Ultimate Leap Dance Studio, WYSO Brass Choirs, and soloists Robert Rockman, Megan McCrumb, and Todd Hammes.
Led by director Vicki Peterson Jenks, the WYSO Percussion Ensemble features students from various WYSO orchestras.
“It takes passionate, talented, respectful, and inspired people to ‘lift spirits’ and ‘heal the world,’ and it can start with each of us,” Jenks said.
For the third consecutive year, WYSO will partner with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison to collect donations on their wish list. Donations to RMHC-Madison will be accepted in the Mills Hall lobby during the concert.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for youth 18 and under. Ticket are available at the door 45 minutes prior to the concert.
