SUMMER CAREER INTERNSHIP WITH WISCONSIN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA!

Attention 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students

Are you looking for a summer work opportunity in music with great colleagues and excellent pay?  Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO) is partnering with WYSO on a 6-week Summer Career Internship for a WYSO student to learn the “ins and outs” of arts administration and event production by joining the WCO staff for the 2025 Concerts on the Square season.

Who can apply?

Any student in WYSO Orchestras, Music Makers, or Chamber Ensembles who will be 16 years old by June 18, 2025 (the start date of the internship).

Dates and Hours

June 18 to August 1, 2025 with flexible hours (15-20 hours/week)

Responsibilities
  • Assist with Concerts on the Square logistics, including setup, guest services, and breakdown
  • Help manage the Concerts on the Square Kids Area (4pm-7pm)
  • Provide excellent guest services, including ticketing, seating, and audience inquiries
  • Support stage management and back house logistics during performances
  • Assist with administrative tasks and special projects related to the WCO-WYSO partnership
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for community engagement initiatives

Job Title: Part-Time Arts Grant Writer
Organization: Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO)
Location: Madison, WI (Hybrid work available)
Hours: 20 hours per week
Compensation: Hourly rate based on experience

About WYSO:

The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO) is one of the most respected youth orchestra programs in the country, serving over 500 young musicians from more than 100 communities across southern Wisconsin. With a mission to enrich and inspire young people through the power of music, WYSO provides high-quality musical opportunities that cultivate talent, teamwork, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Position Overview:

WYSO is seeking a skilled and motivated Part-Time Grant Writer to join our team. This position plays a key role in securing grant funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources to support WYSO’s operations, scholarships, and special initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with experience in grant development, a keen attention to detail, and a passion for the arts and youth education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research, identify, and evaluate grant opportunities that align with WYSO’s mission and programs. 
  • Draft compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding reports.
  • Maintain a calendar of deadlines and ensure timely submission of grant applications and reports.
  • Collaborate with program and administrative staff to gather necessary data and program information.
  • Track and report on grant progress, funding outcomes, and reporting requirements.
  • Support the development team with other writing and fundraising initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit or arts sector. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases and reporting tools is a plus.
  • A passion for youth development, music education, and the mission of WYSO.
Compensation & Schedule:
  • This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours per week. 
  • Hourly wage is commensurate with experience.
  • Flexible scheduling and hybrid work options are available.
