SUMMER CAREER INTERNSHIP WITH WISCONSIN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA!

Attention 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students

Are you looking for a summer work opportunity in music with great colleagues and excellent pay?  Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO) is partnering with WYSO on a 6-week Summer Career Internship for a WYSO student to learn the “ins and outs” of arts administration and event production by joining the WCO staff for the 2025 Concerts on the Square season.

Who can apply?

Any student in WYSO Orchestras, Music Makers, or Chamber Ensembles who will be 16 years old by June 18, 2025 (the start date of the internship).

Dates and Hours

June 18 to August 1, 2025 with flexible hours (15-20 hours/week)

Responsibilities
  • Assist with Concerts on the Square logistics, including setup, guest services, and breakdown
  • Help manage the Concerts on the Square Kids Area (4pm-7pm)
  • Provide excellent guest services, including ticketing, seating, and audience inquiries
  • Support stage management and back house logistics during performances
  • Assist with administrative tasks and special projects related to the WCO-WYSO partnership
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for community engagement initiatives

CERTIFICATION: CPR/First Aid recommended – training provided upon hire

Position Summary

The WYSO Center for Music is seeking enthusiastic and dependable individuals to join our events team. Event Staffing will play a vital role in ensuring smooth operations at WYSO Center events by assisting guests, supporting programming, and maintaining a welcoming and safe environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance at WYSO Center events and programs to ensure smooth execution.
  • Welcome and assist guests by answering inquiries, providing program information, and addressing concerns.
  • Enforce facility rules and policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
  • Assist the Event Manager in event setup, facilitation, and breakdown.
  • Perform light cleaning duties to maintain a tidy and professional event space.
  • Respond to emergencies, including administering first aid as needed (training provided).
  • Communicate effectively with parents, program participants, and community members.
  • Report any safety concerns or equipment issues to the Facility Director.
  • Attend required training sessions as scheduled by supervising staff.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with the public and staff.
  • Ability to work with both youth and adults in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Physical capability to work long hours during events and perform tasks such as lifting, standing, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, including fire evacuations, medical situations, or other urgent needs.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn how to use various equipment, including A/V technology and event management tools.

Development Intern – Summer 2025

About the job

The Development Intern provides general support to the Development Department. The Development Department creates and implements the organization’s fundraising efforts in both creative and strategic ways. The Development Intern will be working under the supervision of the Development Department on donor relations, community engagement, and events.

What will the intern learn through this internship?

 

The intern will have the opportunity to work on one or more portfolio-building projects in the development space, including but not limited to: grant writing, prospect research, corporate social responsibility, board relations, mission advancement planning, data management and analysis, and events management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with maintaining database records
  • Conduct research on potential donors, alumni and members
  • Provide support in sending mailings and invitations and summarize potential donor engagement opportunities
  • Implement marketing strategies and create marketing materials
  • Assist with copy editing and preparing of proposals and reports
  • Track deliverables and maintain calendars, as necessary
  • Assist with special events in preparation and logistics for events
  • Plan and present creative donor engagement opportunities for events
  • Depending on availability, provide assistance at events
  • The internship position will also have its share of administrative support including but not limited to stuffing envelopes and administrative duties like proofreading, file cleaning, and data entry and reporting.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Strong computer and research skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including in-person, telephone, and email
  • Organized and detail-oriented approach to projects
  • Ability to prioritize duties, meet deadlines, and be a team player
  • Ability to work independently within the guidelines of a project?
  • Event planning experience is a plus

Interest in music is a plus.

Graphic Design Intern – Summer 2025

About the job

The Graphic Design Intern provides visual design support to WYSO’s marketing and communications efforts. Working under the supervision of the Marketing & Communications Manager, the intern will assist in designing a variety of print and digital materials that support both WYSO and the WYSO Center for Music. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while gaining real-world experience in nonprofit arts marketing and design.

 
What will the intern learn through this internship?

The intern will have the opportunity to work on one or more portfolio-building design projects, including but not limited to: print brochures, social media graphics, digital signage, concert programs, advertisements, and website updates. This internship provides hands-on experience with nonprofit branding, arts communications, and promotional design for both youth orchestra programs and a performing arts facility.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design print brochures, flyers, concert programs, and promotional materials
  • Create social media graphics and digital advertisements
  • Assist with WordPress website updates and digital banners
  • Design assets for digital signage and on-site marketing
  • Collaborate with WYSO Center for Music on facility rental marketing materials
  • Support visual branding and storytelling across WYSO’s public communications
  • Respond to feedback and revise design drafts to meet project goals
  • Perform occasional administrative tasks as needed related to communications
 
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
  • Familiarity with WordPress or basic web design principles
  • Strong eye for typography, layout, and visual consistency
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines
  • Interest in music, the arts, or nonprofit work is a plus
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively
