WYSO Music Makers Oboe Instructor

WYSO Music Makers seeks an oboe instructor for hire to join our dynamic and growing musical community. General responsibilities include teaching and preparing students in private and/or group instruction to the standards and mission of the organization.  Within the scope of work, faculty are expected to attend monthly virtual staff meetings and attend/support program performances. This is an independent contractor, 1099 opportunity. 

Program Description

The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Music Makers (WYSO MM) Program welcomes students to learn instrumental music in a non-competitive environment, regardless of ability to pay. The program provides access to instruments, music, and instruction for students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds throughout Madison, WI.

WYSO is committed to providing high quality music education in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and program participants. Candidates of color, as well as those with other diverse backgrounds and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply..

Hours and Compensation

  • Teaching rate: $50/hour
  • Program Support (concert assistance or other non-instructive student supervision): $30/hour
  • Administrative Support (attending faculty meetings): $15/hour
  • Teachers are able to set their own teaching schedules (within student availability).
  • Some evening or weekend availability will be required for recitals or other WYSO MM events.

WYSO Administrative Assistant

We believe that music has a unique ability to change lives. It has the power to touch the mind, body and soul likenothing else can. The WYSO program has been transforming the lives of young musicians and their families for 57 years. In keeping with core WYSO values, the WYSO Administrative Assistant will work with cultural sensitivity to affirm the diverse identities for all members and their families The WYSO Administrative  Assistant will be one of the primary contacts for 450 members and their families and will provide critical program support. This role ensures that all administrative functions are executed professionally and with the upmost attention to detail.

Organizational Summary

Founded in 1966 by Marvin Rabin, the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras is widely regarded as one of the top youth orchestra programs in the country.   Over 5000 young musicians from more than 100 communities in southern and central Wisconsin have participated in the program.  The WYSO program includes 3 full orchestras, two string orchestras, brass, percussion and harp ensembles, chamber music and our Music Makers community impact program.  Driven by the mission of enriching lives by providing transformational musical experiences and opportunities, WYSO provides access to instruments, musical training and performance opportunities to a diverse community of young musicians.

• Range: $20-$24/hour

WYSO Membership Coordinator

The WYSO program has been transforming the lives of young musicians and their families for 67 years. In keeping with core WYSO values, the WYSO Membership Coordinator will work to provide a welcoming musical environment rooted in equity, cultural sensitivity, and affirmation of diverse identities for all members and their families. The WYSO Membership Coordinator will be a primary contact for 450 members and their families and provide critical program support. The WYSO Membership Coordinator will play a key role in our members’ experience and the success of our rehearsals, concerts and events.

WYSO Orchestra Assistant

 The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO) seeks a flexible and organized professional to join one of the most highly respected youth orchestra programs in the country. This is an 8-15 hour per week seasonal part-time position. The Orchestra Assistant’s responsibility will be supporting the activities of five youth orchestras, Chamber Music Program, and multiple ensembles with another Orchestra Assistant, the Librarian & Operations Assistant, and the Director of Operations. General duties include properties, conductor and member assistance, and music library. Hours are 9:00am-5:00pm on Saturdays and/or 9:15am-3:00pm on Sundays throughout the school year (as well as other dates) for special rehearsals and performances.

This position reports to the Director of Operations and is under the direct supervision of the Librarian & Operations Assistant.
