Double Bassist David Scholl enjoys a career as an active performer and educator. A dedicated teacher, he enjoys teaching in a wide array of settings. In addition to maintaining a private studio, he presents bass and coaching sectionals across the Midwest.

He served as interim bass instructor at UW-Madison from 2017-2020, teaching private lessons, running studio class, and coaching sectionals. Other teaching positions have included faculty at Birch Creek Music Festival and the UW Summer Music Clinic.

David serves as principal bass of both the Madison and Quad City Symphonies, and he was previously a member of the Illinois and Dubuque symphonies. Chamber music highlights are Midsummer’s Music Festival, University of Wisconsin – Madison faculty recitals, Chicago Symphony’s MusicNOW series, University of Chicago’s Contempo series, Bach, Dancing, and Dynamite Society, and concerts with the Pro Arte and Spektral Quartets.

David earned his BM and MM from Indiana University where he studied with Bruce Bransby. He gained additional training during his time as principal bass of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Aspen Music Festival, and with Alex Hanna.

He lives in Madison with his wife, Ria, a violist, and their two cats.
