Music Makers Summer Session – Willy Street Chamber Players
The Willy Street Chamber Players are a chamber music performance group dedicated to creating community through classical music. Now in their 10th season, they have become a fixture of the Willy Street neighborhood’s vibrant cultural scene.
Music Makers Summer Session – Rebulú
Rebulú is a band in the mold of a classic Cuban conjunto with a twist. Its sound is a deft, tight, soulful blend of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and African diaspora grooves topped with powerful lead and harmony vocals. Rebulú’s repertoire includes classics of the genre as well as originals that bring in elements of pop and rock.
Music Makers Summer Session: Tuuli Quartet
The Music Makers Summer Session, the inaugural month-long concert series at the WYSO Center for Music, kicks off with an hour-long performance by the Tuuli Quartet, an Upper Peninsula-formed string ensemble that performs regularly across the Midwest, at 6:30pm. The group includes musicians and music educators Lauren Pulcipher (violin), Danielle Simandl (violin), Kelly Quesada (cello), and WYSO Music Maker Director Ria Hodgson (viola).
Make Music Madison DAY: The WYSO Youth Orchestra Plays Boléro by Maurice Ravel on Capital Square
The WYSO Youth Orchestra and Friends, let by Maestro Kyle Knox, will play Boléro by Maurice Ravel, an iconic piece of classical music on the King Street corner of Capitol Square at 6:30pm on June 21st. Maestro Knox calls this composition “the closest that we have in the ‘Classical’ tradition to pop music” and should sound familiar to even an occasional listener of the genre.
Marco Reyes Original Composition Piano Recital
Don’t miss WYSO Music Maker and Composer Marco Reyes, this Sunday, June 9th, at 4:00pm, at the WYSO Center for Music. Marco will premiere a program of original compositions and will be joined by a group of featured ensemble musicians. Come support this budding composer!
The Grandissimo Garage Sale
It’s garage sale season! Which means it’s finally time for the first-ever Grandissimo Garage Sale, presented by the WYSO Music Makers Student Council, at the WYSO Center for Music on Saturday, June 15 from 9:00am to 3:30pm. There you’ll find plenty of clothes, books, toys, and home decor donated by WYSO friends and family — and you may even get a chance to dunk a WYSO staff member in (what surely must be) WYSO’s first-ever dunk tank. All proceeds from this sale will go toward supporting the WYSO Music Makers Program.
Partners in Music Reception
The Partners In Music reception will follow the May 18, 4:00pm Percussion Ensemble & Concert Orchestra concert and will honor composer Kevin Day, as well as the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, who will be performing in a side-by-side performance with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the 7:00 Eugenie Mayer Bolz Family Spring Concert.
