Program: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2
Composed in 1802, at the moment Beethoven was confronting the reality of his encroaching deafness, the Second Symphony answers that crisis with radiant energy, humor, and defiance. Notes & Narratives opens the evening with a guided exploration of the piece — its creation, context, and the composer’s state of mind — before the performance brings the work fully to life.
