2025 WYSO Summer Intensive

Elevate Your Musical Journey

WYSO’s Summer Intensive is a dynamic 3-day program designed for motivated 8th-12th grade musicians. This intensive will provide a focused, enriching environment with expert faculty to deepen your skills in both solo and ensemble performance. Whether you’re looking to expand your repertoire, receive personalized instruction, or prepare for future music studies, this program is a perfect opportunity to take your playing to the next level.

This year’s program is aimed at advanced musicians aged 14-20, with an emphasis on building strong foundations for orchestra and solo performances. Our faculty includes accomplished professional musicians, each bringing their wealth of experience from world-class orchestras.

Program Details:

  • Dates: Monday, June 23 – Wednesday, June 25 (Flute Intensive) &
    Dates: Tuesday, June 24 – Thursday, June 26 (Violin Intensive)
  • Time: 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Location: WYSO Center for Music, 1118 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI
  • Cost: $525 (Some scholarships available on a first-come, first-served basis.)

This intensive is a compact, dense seminar with topics ranging from ensemble playing and orchestra repertoire to solo recitals and concertos. We are offering two tracks this year:

Flute Summer Intensive

The WYSO Summer Flute Intensive is an exciting opportunity for advanced young flutists to deepen their craft and connect with faculty and peers in a collaborative setting.

Program Details:

  • Dates: Monday, June 23 – Wednesday, June 25
  • Time: 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Location: WYSO Center for Music (1118 E. Washington Ave., Madison)
  • Application Deadline: Saturday, April 5 (with a $25 application fee, which will be applied to tuition)
  • Cost: $525
  • Eligibility: Open to musicians ages 14-20 (Limited to 20 participants)

Participants will work on advanced practice techniques, ensemble playing, orchestra repertoire, solo concerto and recital repertoire, careers in music, musical entrepreneurship, and more. The intensive will feature two lessons with faculty and multiple masterclasses to ensure an immersive experience. Students should submit a 3-5 minute audition video with a contrasting solo work of their choice. (Be sure that your video submission has permissions set to allow videos to be viewed when shared.)

Violin Summer Intensive

Join us for the WYSO Summer Violin Intensive, a 3-day program crafted for violinists who are passionate about refining their technique and gaining experience in solo and ensemble performance.

Program Details:

  • Dates: Tuesday, June 24 – Thursday, June 26
  • Time: 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Location: WYSO Center for Music (1118 E. Washington Ave., Madison)
  • Application Deadline: Saturday, April 5 (with a $25 application fee, which will be applied to tuition)
  • Cost: $525
  • Eligibility: Open to musicians ages 14-20 (Limited to 20 participants)

Participants will work on advanced practice techniques, ensemble playing, orchestra repertoire, solo concerto and recital repertoire, careers in music, musical entrepreneurship, and more. Students will have the chance to receive lessons from renowned faculty members and take part in masterclasses, allowing them to refine their performance skills in a small-group setting. Students should submit a 3-5 minute audition video showcasing contrasting solo pieces. (Be sure that your video submission has permissions set to allow videos to be viewed when shared.)

How to Apply

Interested musicians must submit their application by Saturday, April 5, including a $25 application fee (applied to tuition). You will need to provide a 3-5 minute audition video featuring a solo piece of your choice. The application link is below:
