2026 WYSO Summer Intensive

Elevate Your Musical Journey

WYSO’s Summer Intensive is an immersive 3-day training experience for advanced young musicians seeking to refine their artistry, expand their repertoire, and work closely with distinguished professional and university faculty.

Held at the WYSO Center for Music, this focused program brings together a small cohort of highly motivated musicians for an intensive schedule of masterclasses, group instruction, private lessons, and guided practice. Participants receive individualized feedback while developing both their technical command and musical voice.

Designed for serious students considering advanced study in music, the Summer Intensive offers a rigorous and supportive environment where musicians can challenge themselves, collaborate with peers, and gain insight into the artistic and professional pathways ahead.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Violin Intensive
Dates: Monday – Wednesday, June 15–17, 2026

Cello Intensive
Dates: Thursday – Saturday, June 18–20, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Lunch provided daily)
Location: WYSO Center for Music, 1118 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI
Tuition: $550 (Some scholarships available)

This program is designed for advanced middle school through pre-college musicians ages 12–20 and is limited to 20 participants.

Participants will receive:

  • Two private lessons with faculty
  • Multiple masterclasses
  • Daily group instruction and seminars
  • Guided practice time

Topics include advanced practice techniques, orchestral repertoire, solo and concerto repertoire, careers in music, and musical entrepreneurship.

APPLICATION

Application Deadline: April 18, 2026
Application Fee: $50 (non-refundable and applied toward tuition)

Applicants should submit:

  • A 4–5 minute video performance (longer submissions welcome)
  • Repertoire that demonstrates both lyrical playing and technical ability
  • A brief summary of repertoire studied and ensemble experience
  • Information about private study and years of playing

Video submissions may include a full piece, selected excerpts, or multiple works. Piano accompaniment is not required.

REGISTRATION

Registration Deadline: May 15, 2026

  • Tuition: $500
  • Scholarship Tuition: $300
  • Remaining Balance: $200 due by June 15 if scholarship not granted

Limited scholarships (up to $200 per student) are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Preferred hotel rates may be available for out-of-town students upon request
  • Participants will receive a curated guide to Madison, including recommendations for dining, activities, and local attractions to enhance their experience during the intensive

Cello Summer Intensive

The WYSO Summer Cello Intensive offers advanced young cellists an immersive opportunity to develop their musicianship through focused study with distinguished professional and university faculty.

Through masterclasses, private lessons, and ensemble work, students explore both solo and orchestral repertoire while strengthening their technical and interpretive skills. The program is intentionally limited in size to allow for meaningful mentorship and individualized instruction in a highly focused environment.

Violin Summer Intensive

The WYSO Summer Violin Intensive is a focused three-day program for advanced young violinists seeking to deepen their artistry through rigorous study with leading professional performers and university faculty.

Participants engage in masterclasses, group instruction, private lessons, and guided practice within a collaborative environment of highly motivated musicians. The program emphasizes both solo and orchestral repertoire while providing individualized feedback to support each student’s technical and musical development.
