Eugenie Mayer Bolz Family Spring Concerts: Youth Orchestra

You’re Invited to the Eugenie Mayer Bolz Family Spring Concerts: Youth Orchestra! This is the last concert of the season. The Youth Orchestra will perform at the Hamel Music Center on May 19th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

A Note about violinist Jane Story: Jane Story, 17, from Stevens Point, began violin studies at the age of four and currently studies with Dr. Anna Cromwell. Jane won the 2024 WYSO Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Since her solo orchestral debut with the Madison Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12, Jane has also performed as a soloist with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra, Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Civic Symphony of Green Bay, Birch Creek Symphony, and Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra. Her awards include first prize winner of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Audrey G. Baird Stars of Tomorrow Competition in 2023 and finalist of the Madison Symphony Orchestra’s Bolz Young Artist Competition: The Final Forte in both 2024 and 2022, among others. Jane is a 2023 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist, and appeared on NPR’s From the Top.

Jane is currently in her second season with WYSO, where she also performs in the Pondrom Piano Quartet. Last season, as a member of the WYSO Pondrom String Quartet, Jane received the Silver Medal and the BIPOC prize at the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition (2023) and an honorable mention at the Chicago National Chamber Music Competition (2023), and appeared on WPR’s The Midday.

A Note about Karlos Moser:

Born in western Brazil of missionary parents, Karlos Moser received his musical training in Denver, Colorado under Antonia Brico. He received degrees in music composition from Princeton in 1950 and University of Colorado in 1956. Moser trained with impresario Boris Goldovsky in conducting, directing and producing opera. He led Goldovsky’s New England Opera tour of Rigoletto to forty-two cities. Moser’s academic career began at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, and continued at the University of Wisconsin. At UW–Madison as Professor of Music, Artistic Director and Conductor of The Opera, he produced and conducted over 70 operas from 1960 until his retirement in 1998, including the American premieres of Haydn’s L’isola disabitata and Piccinni’s La buona figliuola.

In addition to his work in the UW–Madison School of Music, Moser was founding conductor of the Fox Valley Symphony, music director of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and co-founder of the Original Hyperion Oriental Fox Trot Orchestra. He conducted ballet stars Rudolf Nureyev and Dame Margot Fonteyn, and music comedy stars Nancy Walker and Gypsy Rose Lee.
