FOUNDATIONS AND TREES

AUGUST 15, 2022

The foundation supports are in and the project is moving forward. Unfortunately, there was no way to save the trees on the back edge of the project along Curtis Court. The landscape plan will be beautiful when the building is completed and we look forward to that time!

Our building partner, Melissa Huggins wrote this note to our neighbors:

WYSO understands there is consternation regarding the removal of the trees on the northeast corner of the property. We would like to clarify what was discussed in a meeting on site last fall and what was included in the plans that were approved by the City of Madison.

On October 18th, 2021, WYSO met with a number of Curtis Court neighbors to review and discuss the landscaping for the northeast corner of the property, including the Linden trees and the bench. The landscape architect reviewed the condition of the three trees and the potential impact of construction. Two of the trees were determined to be in poor health and would need to be removed.  A third was in good health, but she was concerned it would be negatively impacted by the building construction; a determination would need to be made at that time.

The Demo & Landscape Plan – Curtis Court, which have been approved by the city’s planning and building departments, reflect this conversation.  The red circle around the third tree (demolition plan) and accompanying note (demolition and landscape plan) indicate the tree may need to be removed. Unfortunately, after beginning construction, Findorff determined the third tree would not survive and the tree was taken down.

WYSO understands the deep feelings the loss of the trees has caused.
