Sonora Slocum was appointed Principal Flute of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at the age of 22, and has performed with orchestras around the country. Recognized for her “pure sparkling sound” and “delightfully relaxed vibrato,” Slocum attended the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music pre-college programs before receiving a Bachelors degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and a Masters degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music.
Slocum has conducted masterclasses at the Curtis Institute of Music, NYO2 Carnegie hall Youth Orchestra, DePaul University, Montclair State University, and East Tennessee State University. Each WYSO student will submit a video and will work virtually with Ms. Sloan via Zoom.
