Dafydd Bevil

Dr. Dafydd Bevil, Associate Lecturer of Horn at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, maintains an active career as a performer and educator. In addition to his teaching duties at UW-Whitewater, he is the brass section coach of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, the director of the UW-Whitewater Fall Horn Festival, and performs throughout the upper Midwest as a symphonic, chamber, and solo musician.

Described as “a performer of exceptional skill and musicality,” Bevil has performed at regional and international conferences of the International Horn Society and maintains an active recital schedule, performing for audiences throughout Wisconsin and at universities throughout the country. As a chamber musician, Bevil performs with the Whitewater Brass, the faculty brass quintet of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and frequently appears with various chamber groups throughout the region including the Isthmus Brass, Oakwood Chamber Players, and the Con Vivo Chamber Ensemble. As an orchestral player, Bevil performs frequently with the Madison Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Dubuque Symphony, Fox Valley Symphony, and he is the Principal Horn of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra.

Outside of performing and teaching, Dr. Bevil participates in various research and recording projects. His most recent publication is an album titled “From Screen to Concert Hall.” This first of its kind recording project is a collection of concert works for horn written by prominent film composers. The album includes the debut recording of Timeline (1945- ), a trio for horn, viola, and piano by Emmy winning composer Bruce Broughton, as well as seldom recorded works by Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, and John Williams.

Bevil holds degrees from Louisiana State University, Roosevelt University, and a DMA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His primary teachers and mentors are Seth Orgel, Dale Clevenger, and Daniel Grabois.
