Steve Kurr

Steve Kurr is in his 21st year at Middleton High School where he teaches the three school orchestras, music history courses, and serves as the Instructional Leader for the Fine Arts Department. He received undergraduate degrees in Viola Performance and Mathematics from UW-Platteville, a master’s degree in Musicology from UW-Madison, and has completed doctoral course work at UW-Madison with specialties in mid-18th-century Viennese symphonies and orchestral conducting.

Mr. Kurr also teaches courses in music appreciation through the UW Division of Continuing Studies, served on the Wisconsin Music Educator Association Council as the State Chair for Lifelong Engagement in Music, collaborates with Maestro Chitravina Ravikiran on projects bridging Western Music with Carnatic Indian Music, produces Connect Events for the Madison Symphony Orchestra League, has been a guest clinician for orchestras in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois, is a Master Adjudicator for the Wisconsin School Music Association, and is Founding Conductor Emeritus for the Middleton Community Orchestra. His wife Nancy is also a violist and also teaches orchestra in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area Schools and his children Veronica and Thomas are also both violists.
